Trump Brushes Off Rising Gas Prices Amid Iran Conflict
President Donald Trump downplayed concerns about rising U.S. gas prices due to the escalating conflict in Iran, stating 'if they rise, they rise' during an interview with Reuters.
Trump said he was not worried about the higher costs at the pump, which have jumped 27 cents since last week to $3.25 per gallon, according to AAA, a U.S. travel organization that tracks fuel prices.
The national average cost of gas is now 15 cents higher than a year ago, and global oil prices have risen 16% since the war started on Saturday.
Energy analysts say a persistent rise in gas prices could harm Republicans in the November midterm elections, but Trump's administration believes the conflict will be short-lived.
