Trump Gets New Leverage on Russian, Iranian Oil With Signed Sanctions Bill
The US government has enacted new sanctions legislation concerning Russian and Iranian oil, giving President Donald Trump 'additional options' to deal with the conflict. The law, referred to as the Graham Sanctions Bill, was passed by Congress and signed by President Trump on September 23, 2026.
According to US State Department spokesperson Bilal Faruqi, the legislation provides the President with more flexibility in dealing with the situation. 'There are not many details available about this new law,' Faruqi said, adding that the administration would assess how and whether to use these additional options.
Faruqi emphasized that ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict remains a key priority for the Trump administration. He noted that American Special Envoys have engaged with both Russia and Ukraine in negotiations, but the leaders of the two countries will ultimately decide the terms of any agreement.
