Trump Rejects Iran's Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week, which would allow for the resumption of talks on Tehran's nuclear program. The proposal, made earlier this week, included lifting US sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observing a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Tehran had offered to reopen the strait, through which a significant number of ships pass each year, if the US met its conditions. However, Trump dismissed the offer, stating that Iran wants to make a deal because it is 'losing so badly'. The Strait has been effectively closed since the US and Israel's attack on Iran in late February.

The White House confirmed that US officials are having positive and constructive conversations with mediators on the Iran issue. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia claimed to have intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen towards its southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.
