Trump's New Strategy to Disrupt Iran's Control Over Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has adopted a new three-pronged strategy to weaken Iran's grip on the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil trade.

The plan involves escorting commercial ships through the strait, bombing Iranian military infrastructure used to threaten the waterway, and choking off Iran's own oil exports.

Last Tuesday, all three parts of this strategy were implemented simultaneously in one of the most complex US operations of the war.

The US military escorted 40 commercial vessels carrying 18 million barrels of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, a wartime high. At the same time, they struck nearly 60 Iranian military targets around the waterway using air, sea, and space assets.
