The Port of Mombasa has received a significant shipment of equipment for Kenya's Turkana oil project, valued at over Ksh2 billion.

The consignment, which weighed 2,152 metric tonnes, arrived on board the MV Transit Sedanka and included a 1,500-horsepower drilling rig called the GW70 Integrated Onshore Drilling Rig.

The equipment is expected to support drilling activities in the South Lokichar Basin, where oil reserves are estimated at 326 million barrels. The project's total investment is projected to be around Ksh790.7 billion over a period of 25 years.

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) stated that the arrival of the equipment highlights the Port of Mombasa's growing role in facilitating strategic national projects through efficient handling of complex cargo.
