UNSMIL Demands Swift Reopening of Libya Oil Pipeline

The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has called for urgent action to resolve disputes that have kept the pipeline linking the Sharara oilfield to the Zawiya refinery closed.

In a statement, UNSMIL warned that a prolonged shutdown could affect Libya's main source of national revenue and disrupt fuel supplies, electricity generation, and other essential services.

The mission stated that an extended closure would increase reliance on fuel imports and put further pressure on public finances.

UNSMIL urged the relevant authorities to resolve the disputes peacefully and take steps to restore crude oil flows while protecting operations at the Zawiya refinery and related facilities.
