Ukraine Reports Strong Harvest Progress with 35 Million Tons Collected
Ukrainian farmers have made significant progress in the 2026 harvest season, collecting 35.174 million metric tons of grains and legumes from 62.7% of the projected area by October 6. The average yield across the harvested fields stands at 4.84 tons per hectare, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
Major crops have seen varying levels of completion. Wheat harvesting is fully done, with 26 million metric tons gathered from 5.11 million hectares at an average yield of 5.08 tons per hectare. Barley harvests are also complete, totaling 6.6 million metric tons from 1.48 million hectares with a yield of 4.46 tons per hectare. Peas have been fully harvested, yielding 823,700 metric tons from 302,100 hectares.
For corn, 1.623 million metric tons have been harvested from 6% of the planted area, averaging 5.52 tons per hectare. Millet and buckwheat harvests are 82% complete, with yields of 1.28 tons per hectare for both crops. The rapeseed harvest is finished, collecting 3.88 million metric tons from 1.33 million hectares.
Sunflower and soybean harvests are ongoing, with 5.383 million metric tons and 1.89 million metric tons collected respectively. Sugar beets have seen 10% of the planted area harvested, yielding 824,600 metric tons. The Economy Ministry estimates the total grain and oilseed harvest for 2026 to reach 81 to 83 million metric tons, with grain production forecast at 60 to 61 million metric tons.
