US Grain Exports Face Uncertainty Amidst China and Mexico Trade Concerns
U.S. grain exports are facing uncertainty on several key markets, according to Bree Baatz of Terrain. Baatz spoke at the 2026 Husker Harvest Days and expressed concerns about China's commitment to purchasing $17 billion worth of non-soybean goods.
Baatz noted that while China is on track to meet its goal of importing 25 million metric tons of grains, there has been a lack of new crop corn and wheat sales. The market is waiting for additional export sale activities related to China, which could be supportive of prices.
Corn exports are also behind last year's pace due in part to Mexico not purchasing as much U.S. corn. Baatz suggested that this may be due to restrictions on domestic supply and potential geopolitical tensions surrounding the USMCA trade agreement.
