US Rejects Iran's Seven-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
The diplomatic standoff between Iran and the US has reached a new impasse as Tehran proposed a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, but Washington rejected its terms.
The proposal, presented by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN General Assembly, calls for the immediate release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil exports, and an end to the US naval blockade surrounding Iranian ports.
According to Araghchi, these steps are necessary to restore economic stability and regional security. The plan outlines a 7-day timeline, with negotiations for a comprehensive agreement set to begin on day 7.
However, President Donald Trump has dismissed the proposal, saying Iran is only seeking a deal because of severe economic damage caused by the blockade. He claimed that the US military presence in the region acts as a 'steel wall' cutting off Iran's revenue streams.
