India's reliance on Russian oil has come under pressure due to the US House of Representatives' passage of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.

The bill proposes a framework that could result in tariffs of up to 100% for countries buying Russian energy, which would significantly impact India's crude oil imports.

India currently imports around 45% of its total oil from Russia, with approximately 2.08 million barrels per day (bpd) being imported as of August 2026.
