US, Venezuela Expand Energy Deals to Boost Oil Production
The US and Venezuela are expanding energy deals to boost oil production in the country. Chevron and Eni, already operating in Venezuela, have signed agreements to expand development and increase production.
Chevron's deal includes a $7 billion investment over five years, which will more than double production to 600,000 barrels per day. Eni has agreed to develop an oil field containing around 35 billion barrels of oil.
The US Department of Energy expects the agreements to more than double Venezuela's oil production in less than five years, according to a spokesperson. The deals were inked during a meeting between US Energy Secretary Chris Wright and acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez.
Wright emphasized the importance of energy in transforming Venezuela and improving life conditions for Americans and people around the world. Chevron Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth stated that the company's expanded position reflects its confidence in Venezuela's deep resource potential.
