Vietnam Gold Prices Plummet Amid Rising World Rates
World gold prices have seen an increase of nearly 79 USD/ounce over the past three months, but domestic gold prices in Vietnam have taken a sharp dive. As of August 22, 2026, world gold prices reached 4,602.4 USD/ounce, up from 4,523.5 USD/ounce on May 22, 2026, marking an increase of around 1.75%.
In contrast, domestic SJC gold bar prices have fallen significantly. At Phu Quy and DOJI, the buying price decreased by 14.8 million VND/tael and the selling price also dropped by 14.8 million VND/tael compared to May 22, 2026.
This means that if someone bought gold on May 22 with a selling price of 162.4 million VND/tael and resold it today at a buying price of 144.6 million VND/tael, the loss could be up to 17.8 million VND/tael.
The same trend is observed in other regions such as Bao Tin Minh Chau, where gold buyers on May 22 at a price of 162.4 million VND/tael may suffer a loss of about 18.3 million VND/tael if sold now.
