Abu Dhabi-backed investment firm XRG has strengthened its position in the Caspian region by acquiring a stake in the Southern Gas Corridor. This move comes as US LNG exporters target many of the same regional buyers, highlighting the convergence of interests in European natural gas markets.

The Southern Gas Corridor is a critical pipeline system connecting Azerbaijan to Europe through Turkey and Greece. XRG's acquisition positions the company to supply natural gas to Southeast and Central European markets, where demand is expected to grow.

The move also underscores the growing importance of LNG exports from the US in meeting European demand. As US LNG exporters pursue regional buyers, they are converging with the interests of Caspian suppliers like XRG.
