Absa Group Becomes First African Bank to Offer Crypto Custody Services
South Africa's Absa Group has made history by becoming the first bank on the continent to offer digital-asset custody services. The new service, which is now available to institutional clients, allows them to securely store and transfer four types of cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, and XRPL assets.
The move is seen as a significant step forward for Africa's financial sector, which has been gradually embracing blockchain technology and digital currencies. By offering this service, Absa Group aims to provide its clients with regulated access to these new asset classes.
While the exact details of how the custody service will work are not yet clear, it is likely that Absa Group will partner with a third-party provider to manage the storage and transfer of the cryptocurrencies.
