The AI agent payments sector has seen a significant rebound over the past few weeks. According to data from Token Terminal, there were 8.7 million x402 stablecoin transfers in the week starting August 17, which is more than double the 4.1 million recorded the week prior.

This uptick started in June and has held since, but despite recent growth, the sector is still well short of its all-time high of around 20.1 million transfers set in November 2025.

Circle's USDC still dominates the market, but the chains carrying the traffic have changed significantly. In November 2025, agentic stablecoin transfers were primarily on the Base network, with 93% of transfers on that chain alone.

However, this year, the share has been cut significantly, with Base handling 4.2 million transfers or a 48% market share, followed by Solana at 3.3 million with 38%. Polygon and Algorand made up the remainder.
