Bitcoin Dips as MicroStrategy and Strive Expand Holdings
Bitcoin (BTC) saw a slight decline in trading on October 5, with a 0.08% drop to $85,856.66. This follows a high of $86,978.95 and a low of $84,955.12 over the past 24 hours. The cryptocurrency has experienced a 0.35% increase in the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index, reaching $85,720.13.
MicroStrategy (MSTR.US) reported a significant $21 billion profit in digital asset gains for the third quarter, holding a record 848,000 Bitcoins. The company also spent $176 million on share buybacks during the same period. Meanwhile, Strive (ASST.US) acquired 2,000 BTC for $169 million, increasing its total holdings to 29,462 coins.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is moving forward with its own crypto market-structure rules following the failure of the CLARITY Act in Congress. Chairman Michael Selig emphasized that this is just the beginning of regulatory efforts in the crypto space.
Crypto skeptic Peter Schiff claimed that MicroStrategy can no longer fund its Bitcoin purchases, expressing doubt about the company's strategy. Additionally, a 4chan Bitcoin prophecy suggests that today marks the end of the crypto winter, though its credibility remains uncertain.
