Bitcoin Exchange Reserves Plummet to Lowest Level Since 2023
The number of Bitcoin reserves on exchanges has fallen to its lowest level since 2023, according to CryptoQuant data. As of now, exchanges hold about 2.68 million BTC, a significant drop from the 3.2 million BTC seen at the start of 2024 when the price was still below $70,000.
This decline is not new and has been ongoing since spring, with nearly 100,000 BTC leaving Binance, OKX, and Gemini in less than three months. The trend continued even during the strong price fluctuations, including the 2025 rally and the 2026 pullback.
The decrease in exchange reserves is not necessarily bullish, as it only indicates a reduction in immediately available supply on exchanges. It does not guarantee a price increase or a shortage of Bitcoin. In fact, some platforms like Binance experienced an opposite movement in September, with their reserves reaching a high of 702,900 BTC.
