Bitcoin Market Sentiment Shifts to Greed as Fear & Greed Index Hits 73
The Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index has reached 73, signaling a shift into "Greed" territory as market sentiment improves. The index, which tracks investor sentiment through factors like volatility, trading volume, and social media activity, reflects growing optimism despite Bitcoin trading about 32% below its all-time high of $126,000 set on October 6, 2025. Currently, Bitcoin hovers around $85,700, $86,000, a 45% recovery from summer 2026 lows near $58,000, $60,000.
Analysts highlight the importance of the $85,000 level, with Avinash Shekhar of Pi42 noting that holding above it strengthens the bullish outlook. A breakout above $87,000, $88,000 could push Bitcoin toward $90,000, according to Nischal Shetty of WazirX. Technical charts, such as those shared by Michael Van De Poppe, show Bitcoin retesting and flipping the $60,000, $70,000 resistance zone into support, suggesting potential for further gains.
Macroeconomic factors also play a role, with weaker U.S. employment data reducing expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October. This has provided relief for risk assets like Bitcoin, though rising Treasury yields and a stronger dollar pose challenges. ETF flows have become less consistent, adding caution to the optimistic sentiment.
Historically, high greed readings have sometimes preceded short-term pullbacks, but strong trends can sustain elevated sentiment. Traders use the index as a contrarian tool, with extreme fear often signaling buying opportunities and high greed levels warranting caution. The current shift toward greed suggests many investors view the recent price action more favorably than during the summer lows.
