Bitcoin Pulls Back from Eight-Month High as Key Level of $84,000 Emerges
Bitcoin's recent surge has been met with caution as it pulled back from an eight-month high of $87,381 to around $85,500 during Asian trading on Tuesday. The cryptocurrency had surged more than 13% in just four trading sessions, lifting it roughly $10,000 from last week's low.
According to Deribit options data, nearly 320,000 outstanding call contracts far outweigh over 169,000 puts, reflecting strong bullish sentiment among traders. However, elevated oil prices and persistently high Treasury yields pose headwinds for Bitcoin's outlook.
Rich Rosenblum, co-founder of crypto market maker GSR, noted that the rapid return above $80,000 has convinced traders that the bear market phase is over, with momentum attracting capital that had been sitting on the sidelines. However, he warned that this could be a macro liquidity trade dressed up in crypto clothing.
Large-scale short position liquidations played a critical role behind the sharp rally, with total liquidations exceeding $1 billion over the past 24 hours. The key level to watch is $84,000, which analysts view as a pivotal point for trend reversal or a technical short squeeze.
