Bitcoin's Limited Role in Bridging America's Widening Wealth Gap
The US economy is experiencing a widening wealth gap, with the top 1% controlling more than $60 trillion in net worth. Since 2020, their wealth has grown by over $30 trillion, while the bottom 50% holds a fraction of that amount.
This disparity is largely due to asset ownership, as those who already owned stocks, businesses, and property benefited disproportionately from rising prices. Meanwhile, inflation eroded the value of income and cash savings, with the greenback losing around 23% of its purchasing power since 2020.
Bitcoin has been proposed as a solution to this problem, but it's not a cure-all. While it offers an accessible way to own a scarce asset that can't be expanded by government spending or monetary policy, it's still volatile and doesn't generate cash flow.
