Bitfarms Abandons Bitcoin Mining for High-Performance Computing
Bitfarms (NASDAQ:BITF) is shifting its focus from Bitcoin mining to high-performance computing and artificial-intelligence infrastructure. The company has signed a binding agreement with a major American data-centre infrastructure provider to convert one of its Washington sites into a facility capable of hosting advanced computing workloads.
The transformation marks a significant shift in strategy for Bitfarms, which has traditionally centered on Bitcoin mining. The company's rebalanced energy portfolio now focuses on North America after exiting Latin America through the sale of a site in Paraguay.
Bitfarms' pivot leverages existing infrastructure, power contracts, and land to serve artificial-intelligence and cloud customers, blurring the line between crypto mining and traditional data-centre operations. The shift reflects the growing demand for computing capacity tied to artificial intelligence, with data-centre operators and cloud providers racing to secure power and land.
