Bitget Hit with $387.5M Hack, Recovery Efforts Yield Minimal Results
Bitget, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has admitted it's unlikely to recover most of the $387.5 million stolen in a devastating hack last week.
The breach, which represents one of the largest crypto exchange thefts this year, sent shockwaves through the industry, already grappling with security concerns and regulatory scrutiny.
According to Bitget's CEO, the company isn't 'expecting to recover a lot' of the stolen digital assets, with recovery efforts yielding only a 'tiny fraction' of the stolen funds successfully frozen.
Despite the massive loss, Bitget has moved quickly to restore confidence among its user base, replenishing its protection fund, which is designed to cover user losses in such scenarios.
The hack highlights the growing sophistication of exchange hacks, with attackers using advanced techniques to obscure fund movements across multiple blockchains, making recovery efforts exponentially more difficult.
