Bloomberg has expanded its Crypto Exposure Analytics to help financial firms comply with the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's (BCBS) prudential framework for crypto assets. The updated solution allows clients to identify, classify, and report their exposure to crypto assets and tokenized real-world assets across various financial instruments, not just direct holdings. This includes ETFs, mutual funds, equities, derivatives, and corporate bonds.
The BCBS framework categorizes crypto exposure into four groups: Group 1a, Group 1b, Group 2a, and Group 2b. Bloomberg's analytics cover a wide range of assets, including 110 spot tickers, 950 listed futures contracts, 320,000 listed options contracts, and 125,000 unique fund tickers. The solution has identified approximately 1,700 funds with potential relevance under the framework, with roughly half not explicitly stating crypto exposure in their investment strategies.
Steven Davis, Global Head of Equity and Listed Derivative Product Reference Data at Morgan Stanley, highlighted the importance of Bloomberg's solution for regulatory compliance and risk oversight. Zane Van Dusen, Global Head of Risk & Investment Analytics Products at Bloomberg, noted that crypto exposure often hides within complex financial structures, making consistent identification challenging. Bloomberg's enhanced analytics provide a scalable way to monitor and classify these exposures.
The solution applies rigorous data quality and governance, using a rules-based process to derive classifications. It is available via Bloomberg Data License and can be integrated into various workflows, including the Bloomberg Terminal. This announcement is part of Bloomberg's broader digital assets roadmap, supporting institutional clients in navigating both traditional and next-generation financial systems.
