Blur, a leading Ethereum NFT marketplace, announced plans to shut down its website on November 12, 2026. The deprecation will only affect the frontend at blur.io, while the marketplace protocol will continue to operate on-chain. Holders of the BLUR token will retain control over its fee switch, ensuring governance remains active.
Alongside the website shutdown, Blur’s NFT lending platform, Blend, will stop matching new loans on the same date. Borrowers have until then to repay their loans or let them default. The company plans to provide a tool afterward to help users withdraw their assets from Blend.
The NFT market has seen a significant decline since its peak in 2021 and 2022. Statista projects global NFT market revenue to reach $318.3 million in 2026, far below its earlier highs. Monthly NFT sales volume dropped to $167.2 million in September, down from $554.8 million a year earlier and $1.78 billion in December 2023, according to CryptoSlam.
This move follows the shutdown of Blast, an Ethereum layer-2 network launched by the Blur team in November 2023. Blast cited operational costs exceeding earnings as the reason for its closure, with users given until October 26 to withdraw their funds.
