Cardano Partners with Mastercard on Blockchain-Based Payments
The Cardano Foundation has officially joined Mastercard's Crypto Partner Program, marking a significant milestone for the blockchain platform. As part of this program, Cardano will collaborate with Mastercard and other participants to explore cross-border transfers, business payments, stablecoins, and settlement through the use of blockchain technology.
This partnership is particularly noteworthy given Cardano's unique proof-of-stake algorithm, known as Ouroboros, which allows for highly scalable transactions. In contrast to traditional proof-of-work blockchains, Cardano's network relies on a node selection process based on the proportion of cryptocurrency held by stakeholders.
The Cardano blockchain operates through two distinct layers: the Cardano Settlement Layer (CSL) and the Cardano Computation Layer (CCL). The CSL manages transactions and handles the ADA token, while the CCL is responsible for smart contracts and computation. This separation enables improved network security, flexibility, and simplicity in designing smart contracts.
