Circle's Revenue Miss Overshadows Profit Beat
Circle Internet Group, the USDC stablecoin issuer, reported its second-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street's profit expectations but fell short on revenue. Despite a 7% year-over-year increase in revenue and reserve income to $701 million, analysts had anticipated between $712 million and $718 million.
The company's shares dropped around 3% in premarket trading after the release of its quarterly report. Circle's adjusted earnings per share came in at 18 cents, surpassing the consensus estimate of 16 cents. Net income from continuing operations was $48 million, a significant improvement over last year's numbers that were impacted by IPO-related stock-based compensation costs.
The interest rate issue remains a concern for Circle as its reserve return rate dropped by 66 basis points year-over-year, despite holding more reserves than ever before. On the other hand, onchain transaction volume surged 151% to $14.8 trillion, with each dollar of USDC turning over far more frequently.
Circle used the earnings release as an opportunity to highlight its Arc Layer-1 blockchain, which is set to launch its public mainnet on September 16, 2026. The validator lineup for Arc includes prominent names such as BlackRock, DTCC, Visa, and Mastercard as founding validators.
