Clearpool Expands to XRP Ledger with 97% Vote Approval
Clearpool’s community has overwhelmingly approved a major expansion to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) with a 97% vote in favor of migrating its governance token from CPOOL to CLEAR. The migration, reported on October 5, 2026, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of the year. On that day, XRP was trading at approximately $1.51, marking a modest 0.8% increase over 24 hours and a 1.9% rise over seven days.
The transition involves a one-for-one conversion of CPOOL to CLEAR, with an initial circulation of 1.1 billion CLEAR tokens. While this expansion brings Clearpool’s credit infrastructure to the XRPL, the institutional credit product will use RLUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, for lending and repayment. This means borrowers will not need to use XRP, which could limit direct demand for the token despite increased activity on the ledger.
Clearpool’s lending infrastructure will continue to operate on Ethereum alongside the XRPL expansion. The company has facilitated over $930 million in loans since 2021, with Cicada Partners underwriting over $860 million. Protocol fees will be used to buy back and burn CLEAR, benefiting its holders but not creating direct demand for XRP. This distinction is crucial as it highlights the difference between ledger activity and token demand.
The migration is part of a broader move toward institutional credit on XRPL, but the impact on XRP’s price remains uncertain. While the vote signals strong community support, the actual execution and adoption of the new infrastructure will be key factors. For XRP to see a stronger catalyst, future products would need to use XRP as collateral or require liquidity in the token, creating a more direct link between credit activity and demand.
