Coinbase Executes Major Leadership Shake-Up Amid Expansion Plans

Share

Coinbase is undergoing significant leadership changes as it expands into stocks and prediction markets. Four senior executives are either departing or moving to new roles, including Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal, who will leave the company after his advisory term ends in October. Jesse Pollak, co-leader of the Base app, is stepping back from this role due to unmet strategic goals.

Chief People Officer Lawrence Brock will move to an advisory position from September 2 to November 30, 2026, and receive a $182,500 payment upon completion. He will also forfeit any unvested equity awards at the end of the term. Greg Tusar, co-head of Coinbase Institutional, is shifting to a new policy-focused role.

The leadership shakeup comes as Coinbase cuts costs, including layoffs in May. The company aims to transition from a crypto-only trading platform into an 'everything exchange'. It will fill vacant positions through promotions within the organization.
