Coinbase Wins Approval for In-House Derivatives Clearing

Share

Coinbase has won approval from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate an in-house derivatives clearinghouse. This means that Coinbase can now handle fully collateralized contracts on its platform, expanding its services for institutional clients.

The CFTC approval does not extend to margined futures or single-stock perpetuals, which will continue to be handled by external partners. Coinbase has stated that it will maintain relationships with these outside clearinghouses for these specific products.

This development marks a significant milestone in the growth of derivatives trading on cryptocurrency exchanges and highlights the increasing importance of regulatory approval in this space.
