CoinEx Announces Shutdown by December 22, 2026 Amid Market Pressures
CoinEx, a nine-year-old cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its decision to shut down by December 22, 2026. The platform will cease operations in phased stages over the next few months due to prolonged market headwinds, shrinking trading volumes, and growing regulatory burdens across multiple jurisdictions.
The shutdown comes as no surprise to industry observers, who have been warning of a liquidity contraction that has made it increasingly difficult for exchanges to operate profitably. Despite CoinEx's asset reserve ratio exceeding 100%, the platform is taking steps to wind down its centralized exchange, native blockchain ecosystem, and trading services.
According to CoinEx's shutdown schedule, new user registrations will cease on September 15, 2026, followed by the closure of all non-spot trading services on September 22. On September 29, all spot trading will halt, with non-USDT assets converted into USDT at a fixed rate of 0.005 USDT per CET token.
Users holding balances on the exchange are advised to withdraw their funds to external private wallets or alternative platforms by December 22, 2026, to avoid asset conversion and custody charges. Any USDT left unwithdrawn after this date will be transferred to independent custody, with accounts charged a 5% monthly custody fee calculated against the account balance recorded on December 22.
