Crypto Lobby's $300M Spending Can't Deliver Victory in Washington

Share

The cryptocurrency industry has been pouring money into Washington politics for years, but its latest lobbying effort failed to deliver a major victory. The Senate voted down the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on Tuesday, despite the crypto lobby's massive spending.

According to Federal Election Commission records, Fairshake, a major crypto-backed super PAC, raised $137.4 million between 2025 and July 31, 2026, with nearly $113 million in cash on hand at the end of that period. The industry spent over $300 million across the 2024 and 2026 election cycles.

Crypto companies and allied groups have backed dozens of crypto-friendly candidates and funded national advocacy campaigns, but their efforts were not enough to overcome Democratic opposition and pressure from banks. Analysts say the vote highlights the limits of the crypto industry's influence in Washington.
