Cryptocurrency Used in Illicit Activities, Says Russian Ministry

The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Russia has identified three areas where cryptocurrency is being used for illicit activities. These include drug distribution, online casinos, and money laundering from Russia.

The agency notes that cryptocurrencies are attractive to criminals due to their high level of anonymity, cross-border nature, and decentralization. This makes it difficult to track financial chains and identify scheme participants.

According to the Ministry, cryptocurrency is particularly useful in situations where participants need to conceal their identities or quickly move money abroad.
