DTCC's Blockchain Trading Experiment Sets Stage for Tokenized Assets
On July 15, Wall Street's Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) led a blockchain trading experiment involving over 30 firms. These participants included traditional players like JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, as well as crypto-native companies like Chainlink, Circle, and Fireblocks.
The experiment used 'digital twins,' blockchain-based representations of securities held in DTCC custody, to run live production transactions. These transactions covered multiple types, including collateral pledges, repo trades, and delivery-versus-payment equity transactions.
DTCC's goal is to eventually flip the switch on its full commercial DTC Tokenization Service by October. This service would allow institutional investors to settle tokenized assets in minutes or even seconds, reducing counterparty risk and freeing up capital tied up in margin requirements.
