ElectrumSVP hits stable release; BSV wallet proves its scalability
ElectrumSVP, the revived classic Bitcoin wallet for BSV, has reached a major milestone with the release of version 0.2.0, marking the end of its beta phase that began in late 2025. This stable release addresses a critical security issue where BIP39 seed phrases could be stored in plaintext within wallet metadata. Developer Truth Machine emphasized that while there is no evidence of exploitation, the fix is crucial for wallet security. The update automatically migrates affected wallets to remove the plaintext data, though users exposed to third parties are advised to move funds to a new seed as a precaution.
The release also enhances the wallet’s BREAD verification system, caching Merkle proofs locally and allowing users to export their entire proof cache. This move is part of a broader goal to shift verification from servers to the wallet itself, aiming for a 'true SPV' architecture. Truth Machine rejected claims that ElectrumSV is a dead end, highlighting its ability to scale through an 'estranged state' design that allows graceful degradation during large block scenarios.
The ElectrumSVP ecosystem is thriving with new server implementations in Rust and JavaScript, an SPV relay project, and miners running servers. Upcoming features include an air-gapped cold wallet workflow designed for PiWallet-style setups and new privacy tools built on UTXO control. The developer also noted improvements in fee systems, interface themes, and bug fixes, making the wallet more user-friendly and secure.
