Ethena Brings Synthetic Dollar Strategy to Tokenized Stocks
Ethena is expanding its synthetic dollar strategy into tokenized stocks with Binance, marking a significant move into the global equities market. The protocol's USDe basis trade now uses Binance's bStocks as collateral, tokenized representations of U.S. equities.
The mechanism mirrors Ethena's existing crypto basis strategy, swapping in equity rails. On one side, Ethena holds bStocks as the collateral leg, and on the other, it shorts corresponding equity perpetual futures to neutralize any directional market exposure.
This allows Ethena to tap into more favorable funding dynamics in equity perpetuals, which have historically offered higher rates than comparable Bitcoin basis trades. According to founder Guy Young, funding rates from equity perpetuals can run approximately five times higher.
