Ethereum Price Plunges, Triggers $74M Liquidations Amid Divergent Institutional Flows
Ethereum faced significant pressure on September 15 as its price plummeted from near $2,600 to around $2,483, triggering a wave of liquidations totaling approximately $74 million. This marked the second-largest single-hour liquidation event in Ethereum's history.
The episode coincided with a notable divergence in institutional capital flows, where Ethereum ETFs attracted $196.9 million in net inflows during the week ending September 11, while spot Bitcoin funds experienced net outflows of $462.7 million over the same period.
Despite the recent reversal, analysts caution that sustained rotation would require multiple weeks of confirming flow data and a reclaiming of the $2,550 level to reopen the path toward $3,000.
