Ethereum Price Stuck Below $2,500 Resistance
The Ethereum price struggled to stay above the $2,500 resistance level after multiple failed attempts throughout August. As of September 9, 2026, the asset traded at $2,487.92. Despite some volatility, including a 27.8% weekly gain that saw the coin move from $1,916.47 on August 19 to $2,542, Ethereum has been unable to break through this ceiling.
US spot ether ETFs attracted $218.4 million in net inflows for the week ending September 4, a significant decline from the $824.4 million recorded the previous week. Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE) lost $1.1 billion in assets during its first three days of trading due to its 2.5% fee.
The high cost of ETHE makes it an unattractive option for institutional investors seeking efficient exposure. Meanwhile, macroeconomic data and staking math are also putting pressure on the current price action. The two-year Treasury yield has risen to 4.38%, competing with Ethereum staking rewards in the 2.6% to 3.0% range.
BlackRock's iShares Staked Ethereum Trust prospectus notes that the fund keeps 18% of gross staking consideration as a fee, eroding the benefits of the yield for investors. The upcoming US August Consumer Price Index report on September 11 will provide the final inflation reading before the Federal Reserve's decision.
