Ethereum Surges to $2,780 Amid ETF Outflows

Ethereum's price surged to $2,780 in September, marking a significant breakout from its previous levels. However, this rally was met with $140 million in net outflows from Ethereum spot ETFs between September 14 and 18, 2026. BlackRock's ETHA saw a $42.86 million outflow on September 17, while investors pulled $31.39 million from Grayscale's ETHE.

The Pectra upgrade, which went live in May 2025, has been seen as a catalyst for Ethereum's recent price action. The upgrade allowed validators to manage assets more efficiently, reducing consensus overhead and operational complexity. Under the new rules, a single validator can now hold up to 2,048 ETH.

Despite the outflows from ETFs, Ethereum prices have remained relatively stable. Institutional holdings continue to play a significant role in the market, with BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust holding $7.37 billion in ETH as of May 8, 2026.
