Ethereum to Abandon Traditional Blockchain Architecture in Favor of Hybrid System
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, recently stated that the network's next fork, Hegota, is likely to be its last 'normal' upgrade. In a blog post titled 'The Cryptographic World Computer,' Buterin explained that future upgrades will shift from traditional blockchain architecture to a hybrid system combining Bitcoin's ideas with advanced cryptography.
The Ethereum co-founder argued that the network will transition into a system where nodes sample data through PeerDAS and check it against a SNARK, rather than re-executing every block. This change will allow for faster transaction processing times, with estimates suggesting 4- to 8-second slots by 2030.
Buterin also emphasized the importance of decentralization in this new system, stating that it can provide performance gains through parallel computation and data storage. He noted that modern cryptography has solved the problem of verifying parallel computations, making decentralization a source of speed rather than just a safety measure.
