Tether Freezes Over $550 Million Linked to Iran Sanctions Networks

Share

Tether has frozen approximately $550 million in assets linked to Iran's Central Bank and sanctions networks across various wallets since 2026.

The freeze was part of a broader campaign by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which expanded its sanctions against Iran's enablers, including through digital assets.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that the company has consistently demonstrated its commitment to not being a haven for sanctioned actors or criminal networks, adding that public blockchains provide authorities with visibility into fund movements.
