Ethereum Transitions Beyond 'Normal' Forks with Hegota in 2027
Vitalik Buterin believes that Hegota, the upcoming Ethereum fork in 2027, will be the last update based on technologies familiar to developers from 2015. The network's future transformations will rely more on cryptographic proofs, parallel execution, and formal verification.
Buterin sees Hegota as a new era for Ethereum, marking its transition beyond being just a distributed ledger. He emphasizes that it will no longer be the same system, with 'normal' forks becoming less frequent or even obsolete.
The next updates after 2027 are expected to use recursive STARK proofs and automated formal verification. The consensus mechanism must also become more efficient and resistant to future quantum threats.
