Fairshake Drops Big Money on Brown Senate Bid After CLARITY Act Stumbles
Financial news group Fairshake has announced plans to spend at least $30 million on opposing Sherrod Brown's bid for a return to the Ohio Senate. This move follows the setback of the CLARITY Act, which was blocked by a Senate vote. Despite not participating in the Senate vote due to no longer serving in the position, Brown is considered an opponent of industry-backed legislation.
Fairshake has over $120 million in assets and has been funded primarily by Coinbase, Ripple, and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. The group's previous spending efforts have included more than $40 million spent helping defeat Brown in 2024, with the new campaign marking its largest planned spending effort of the 2026 midterm cycle.
Brown's campaign has responded to Fairshake's announcement by accusing Republican Senator Jon Husted of serving wealthy donors and corporate interests. Democratic operatives have also questioned the decision to target Brown, who did not participate in the Senate vote, with some contrasting his treatment to that of Republican Senator Susan Collins, who voted against the bill.
