FCA Crypto Authorisation Gateway Opens Ahead of New Regulations

Share

Crypto firms in the UK are getting ready to access the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) crypto authorisation gateway on September 30. This marks a significant step towards the implementation of new regulations for digital assets, set to take effect on October 25, 2027.

The FCA published its final perimeter guidance on September 16, outlining the activities that require authorisation under the new regime. These include issuing qualifying stablecoins, operating cryptoasset trading platforms, dealing and arranging digital asset transactions, safeguarding cryptoassets, and arranging cryptoasset staking.

Firms have been provided with additional clarity for the upcoming regime and are now able to apply for authorisation through the gateway. The application window will be open until February 28, 2027, and firms should initiate their application process as soon as possible to take advantage of saving or transitional provisions.
