The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a loan of approximately $138 million to El Salvador, according to an October 1 announcement.

The approval is tied to the completion of the second and third reviews of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), a 40-month program launched in February 2025 with a total credit limit of around $14 billion. The loan will be disbursed immediately.

El Salvador was initially considered non-compliant with some conditions, including those related to Bitcoin accumulation. However, the IMF has granted an exemption due to the country's implementation of corrective measures and reaffirmation of its commitment to fulfilling program obligations.

The IMF also confirmed that no new Bitcoin accumulations are expected beyond documented donations, as per a document presented on September 3.
