Jesup Considers Allowing Data Centers and Cryptocurrency Mining

Jesup city leaders are considering new zoning rules to allow data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations in the light industrial district. The proposed rules come as a data center project is being explored at the Wayne Commerce Center.

Residents raised concerns about the potential impact of these facilities during a packed city meeting on Tuesday night. Mayor Ralph Hickox emphasized the need for developers to be good neighbors, considering factors such as water usage and sound setbacks.

The developer stated that the project is not finalized and would require proper zoning, an allocation of electricity from Georgia Power, and a company willing to develop the property.
