Juan Benet's FIL Drops 93% Below 2024 High on Phemex
Juan Benet, a Stanford-trained computer scientist, is best known for creating IPFS and Filecoin. The creator of FIL, which pays storage providers on Filecoin, saw its price drop to 0.816 on Phemex's Tuesday close, landing 92.88% below the 11.466 peak reached in March 2024.
Benet founded Protocol Labs in May 2014 and raised $205.8M through the Filecoin token sale in 2017. The first version of CoinList was built with AngelList to run that sale, which spun out as its own company in October 2017.
The Filecoin mainnet launched in October 2020, passing 1 EiB of storage capacity within a month. As of September 15, 2026, the lowest close in the series was 0.632 on August 18, with FIL gaining 29.11% from it.
Benet's story matters beyond crypto for founders who published protocols before selling tokens, for investors who paid for networks that didn't launch until years later, and for traders who should watch FIL's trends.
