Justin Sun Post Fuels Wash Trading Speculation
Justin Sun, the founder of TRON and a crypto billionaire, sparked speculation about wash trading with a cryptic post on X. He claimed that his exchange, Poloniex, is now "the world’s only exchange used solely by the boss himself." This statement led to interpretations that Sun might be admitting to wash trading, where he trades with himself to artificially inflate the exchange’s volume, which reached nearly $1 billion.
Wash trading is widely considered illegal in most countries due to its potential to manipulate asset prices. While rare, the SEC previously accused Sun of wash trading TRX, though the case was later dropped.
Amid Sun’s posts about trading crypto assets alone, rumors spread in Mainland China over the weekend. A fake screenshot claimed UAE media reported Sun had been shot in Dubai. The news quickly gained traction, causing mixed reactions, some were worried, while others appeared celebratory. Sun quashed the rumors with a simple "All is well" post on X.
Sun has recently been traveling between Chicago, where he is promoting the listing of TRON ETFs, and Singapore, where he is scheduled to attend a conference this week.
