KakaoPay Joins Forces with Dinari and Ondo to Tokenize Korean Stocks
KakaoPay Securities, a South Korean financial services company, has partnered with tokenization firms Dinari and Ondo Finance to explore the possibility of issuing and distributing tokenized versions of Korean-listed stocks. The initiative aims to preserve shareholder rights while allowing these assets to reach investors beyond South Korea.
The agreements between KakaoPay Securities and the two tokenization firms cover three key areas: sourcing underlying Korean shares, providing tokenization-related infrastructure, and establishing cross-border distribution paths. This pilot project is part of South Korea's preparations for a formal tokenized-securities regime, which is scheduled to take effect in February 2027.
Dinari's proof of concept will use its dShares model, which preserves applicable shareholder rights, particularly dividends and voting. Ondo Finance's work focuses on establishing a framework for sourcing, custody, and later tokenization of Korean-listed shares held through a foreign investor omnibus account.
