Korean Bank Issues $100M Digital Bonds on Blockchain Platform

Share

Hana Bank, a South Korean financial institution, has issued $100 million in digital bonds on Euroclear's blockchain-based platform, D-FMI. The transaction was settled on the same day as the issue date, September 18th.

This achievement marks the first time a bank in Korea has directly utilized D-FMI for digital bond issuance. Hana Bank stated that they were able to shorten the settlement period from three to five business days to just one day (T+0) using this new platform.

The issued bonds are 5-year foreign-currency denominated and were processed entirely on the D-FMI platform, including registration and payment. The bank also utilized their Global Medium-Term Note (GMTN) program documents for this issuance.
