Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to 44,000 Units
Metaplanet, a company that holds significant amounts of Bitcoin, has increased its BTC holdings to 44,000 units. This is up from 43,000 BTC at the start of the third quarter of fiscal 2026. The company's decision to boost its Bitcoin holdings follows a series of trades that took place during the quarter.
Metaplanet sold 10,000 BTC in a separate transaction, which exceeded the aggregate outstanding principal of its bonds, borrowings, and other interest-bearing liabilities, after accounting for cash, cash equivalents, and US dollar-denominated stablecoins. The proceeds from this sale were held in cash, demonstrating Metaplanet's ability to monetize its main balance-sheet asset without repaying or redeeming those liabilities.
The company then reacquired 11,000 BTC in a separate transaction, rather than conducting the trades as a simultaneous exchange. This move was aimed at improving Metaplanet's creditworthiness and demonstrating its ability to turn Bitcoin into cash to meet obligations or support other capital-management needs.
